Consumer Cellular voice demo¶
Status: Current | Last reviewed: 2026-10-06
Use this demo to show a reassuring bill-payment confirmation followed by friendly conversation that the caller can continue or finish at their own pace. Claire uses OpenAI GPT Live with the selected ElevenLabs voice in the current Vanguard draft. She should wait until Margaret finishes thanking her before saying “You’re welcome.” Brief friendly reactions remain welcome during the granddaughter story. Call ending should contain one farewell, without asking Margaret to hold the line.
Start the demo¶
- In Vanguard Agent Studio, open Consumer Cellular Support, agent 4451, and select Draft for the latest conversation guidance.
- Open Preview. Under Template Variables, set ani to
+12025550147. - Start a voice conversation and play Margaret Wilson.
In the Agents repository, this demo appears as Voice Agent and is included when filtering by that type. In Vanguard, refresh the page if an already-open list still shows the earlier generic Agent label.
The ANI is a test caller identity, not a phone number to dial. The demo has no assigned public inbound number. It uses fictional Salesforce-style records; no real customer or payment system is contacted.
Claire should greet you by first name, identify herself as an AI assistant, and ask how she can help.
Suggested conversation¶
Caller: “I have automatic payments, but I've been worrying that this one might not have gone through. Could you check whether you received my payment for September?”
Claire checks the record, then confirms $42.50 received on September 27, 2026, with nothing due on that bill. The amount and date are fixed sample data.
Caller: “So that September bill is all taken care of, and I don't need to make another payment?”
Let Claire confirm, then finish the original reason for calling:
Caller: “Oh, what a relief. That's been on my mind all morning. Thank you for putting my mind at ease.”
Wait for Claire's acknowledgment. Then introduce the personal subject:
Caller: “Now I can relax and enjoy my granddaughter's visit this afternoon without worrying about that bill. She's eight, and we've been growing little cherry tomatoes together.”
Let Claire respond. She should pick up on your story, with a warm observation or a gentle follow-up. She should not move immediately to a closing question.
Caller: “She calls the little tomatoes garden candy. We picked a whole bowl yesterday, but most of them never made it to the kitchen.”
After Claire responds, you can add:
Caller: “Then we sit on the porch, and she tells me all about school. Those little visits mean a lot to me.”
Continue naturally. Leave a pause, interrupt to add a detail, or ask her to repeat something. There is no required small-talk script or turn count. When you ask for repetition, Claire should repeat her complete response from before your current turn, including its question, rather than a listening acknowledgment she made while you were speaking. Claire should listen without patronizing you or inventing personal memories. Her updated listening guidance encourages friendly acknowledgments such as “Nice”, “Very nice”, “Oh, lovely” and “That's sweet” as your story unfolds. A brief reaction should come in a clear quiet gap between phrases, without speaking across your words. If you resume, Claire should yield immediately. Claire should then return to listening; longer observations and questions wait for you to finish your whole thought. A breath, cough or brief hesitation should not make her take over the conversation. She should respond sympathetically to worries instead of using cheerful praise. When you say you need to leave, Claire should let you finish, give one farewell, and let the phone disconnect. Her closing guidance excludes a preliminary "bye" or another acknowledgment while the call-ending action runs.
For Mock Caller, use Advanced → Wait for agent to finish → 3 seconds
and ask for one or two short sentences per turn, without long silent pauses
inside a sentence. Keep the elderly delivery natural; at most one brief cough
and apology is enough. Opening this agent with ?mockCallerPacing=patient and
then opening Preview applies these pacing settings to the existing browser-local
caller setup. It preserves your voice, story and recording options. You can
adjust the settings afterward; ordinary reloads do not reapply the preset.
Start a new call to use the revised agent prompt.
Caller: “Well, I should get ready for her to arrive. Thank you for checking my payment, and for the lovely chat. Goodbye, Claire.”
Claire should give one warm farewell and end the call. A simple thank-you earlier in the conversation should not cut the story short.
Try another outcome¶
End the current conversation, change ani, and start a new one:
| ANI | Expected behavior |
|---|---|
+12025550148 |
Greets Evelyn. AutoPay is enabled, but payment is pending; receipt is not confirmed. |
+12025550149 |
Greets Ruth. Billing lookup is unavailable; no invented payment confirmation. |
+12025550150 |
Ambiguous caller match; generic greeting and no account details. |
+12025550151 |
Caller lookup unavailable; generic greeting and no account details. |
+12025550199 or blank |
No matching caller; no invented name or payment status. |
You can also say “Actually, I'm not Margaret” to check the wrong-person response, or ask for an appointment booking. Claire should respect the identity correction or explain the action limit briefly. She can still talk about your day afterward.
Claire can check the sample bill and converse. She cannot collect a payment, change AutoPay or plans, book appointments, or send messages. A request for a representative hands control back to the phone service; Preview does not connect a real representative.
See GPT Live for changing the voice or backend settings.
Recorded examples¶
A recorded test can use ElevenLabs Carol, an older American woman's
voice, to play Margaret while Claire responds through the actual GPT Live
agent. The MP3, transcript and original recording are saved locally under
.local-data/consumer-cellular-demo/exports.
The presentation MP3 shortens long silent gaps and keeps comfortable pauses. The speech and turn order stay as recorded. It uses a synthesized caller and the same fictional bill shown above; its edited timing does not measure live response speed.
The second example uses the more active backchannel guidance and is exported
as consumer-cellular-live-call-2.mp3. The first example remains available as
consumer-cellular-live-call.mp3 for comparison. Start a new Preview call to
try the updated agent yourself.
The third example directs Carol's ElevenLabs v4 performance to sound friendly
and elderly, with occasional brief coughs, natural “excuse me” apologies and
a small chuckle. The caller voice audition is
consumer-cellular-caller-audition-3.mp3; the new live call is
consumer-cellular-live-call-3.mp3. Claire uses the current agent and active
listening guidance. The edit keeps the vocal gestures and comfortable pauses.
The new adaptive recording mode uses an AI caller that reads Claire's live captions, chooses a reply and streams it through ElevenLabs v4 while the call runs. Its wording is generated during the conversation. Margaret gives the bill confirmation its own thank-you exchange before starting her story, and receives a private cue to wrap up once she has told it. Claire hears Margaret's spoken goodbye. The original recordings used fixed caller clips streamed into the live agent; those clips could not adapt to Claire's questions.
The fourth example, consumer-cellular-live-call-4.mp3, runs 2:04 and
uses the updated draft. Margaret explains that settling her AutoPay worry
lets her relax and enjoy her granddaughter's visit, then tells the garden
and porch story. It includes one brief cough and apology and a natural goodbye.
The matching video is consumer-cellular-phone-thinking-4.mp4, about 2:06
including its ended screen. It reuses the fourth example’s original audio with
synchronized phone and AI Activity visuals, labeled Margaret and Claire.
It is a visual replay; its original Claire voice is Gleam. The live Vanguard
draft keeps the ElevenLabs Claire voice selected in the editor.
